One of the most repeated and mind-blowing scenes from The Matrix was when the little boy was trying to help Neo bend a spoon without touching. When asked what the secret is, he was told that the secret was to first realize that “there is no spoon”. So why am I bringing this up you ask? Because in the work of infowars where there is apparently a war going on for your mind, the secret to solving the worlds problems is to first realize that all of the bad things that happen really are not happening or not at least for the reasons that you are told to believe. Confusing isn’t it?
Whether it was 9/11, mass shootings like the Newtown or Florida, the mail bomber, people’s citizenship, Las Vegas shooter, etc…there is a growing consensus that many of these things are false flag events perpetrated by the government to make you think one thing. People who believe these stories will go as so far to say that people really didn’t die, never existed, and were actually crisis actors. Now…I am not saying that there isn’t some really odd things going on in our world right now, just go back and listen to our episode on conspiracy theories and you know I believe in some of them. But in case you haven’t been watching the news, there have been a rash of mass shootings recently and the problem only seems to be getting worse. We have elected officials now going on the news and on twitter saying an election is being rigged and stolen without presenting any real evidence. We have 100 year weather and climate events happening every single year. The list goes on and on…but what do they have in common? All major crisis’s facing our country and we have almost 50% of the country either believing they really didn’t happen, or they are happening and it is part of some geo-political conspiracy to take over the world.
This is dangerous territory that we are getting into especially since I believe that the rhetoric is pushing mentally unstable people into action and taking matters into their own hands like a call to action. If that isn’t scary enough, what really worries me is that we are creating a situation where people have no outrage. Think about it, we have kindergarteners and high schoolers gunned down and half of the country has no empathy, outrage, or emotion because the media they listen to and the politicians they support suggest it didn’t happen. Since people believe it didn’t happen and even worse, believing that it did happen is actually a tool that the evil people are using to take over the world, nothing happens. If anything we go in the opposite direction and almost make it easier for these things to happen.
We are at a crossroads as a country where we are facing major issues and how in the hell can we fix them if half the country can’t even agree that it happened? How can we get people to devote resources to a problem at the expense of something we really like if we have no empathy for it? The truth is that politicians and the media are using our brain’s chemistry, learning, and perception against us to get votes and ratings. You think it is a coincidence that on the first day of social psychology we were taught all of the tricks advertisers and politicians use to trick us? If we are going to solve the problems facing us we need to stop letting them do this to us and the best offense is a good defense.
